Bio

I initially was drawn to yoga as a way to maintain physical and mental well-being in the face of my stressful then-career as a litigation attorney. It quickly became a central part of my daily life. In my own practice, I focus on fluidity, grace, breath-movement connection, and mental clarity as much as improving my execution of the asanas (postures) themselves.

My group instruction is primarily in the vinyasa or “flow” style. In my teaching, I give frequent verbal and hands-on adjustments. I encourage students to maintain proper alignment, meditative focus, and deep breathing while working through their challenges. My classes are typically high-energy and build strength as well as flexibility.

I earned my 200-hour teaching certification in ashtanga vinyasa yoga from It’s Yoga San Francisco in 2006. In winter 2008, I traveled to Mysore, India, to practice under Sharath Rangaswamy at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute. Most recently, in spring 2010, I had the privilege of assisting in a Mysore environment under my own teachers, Chad Herst, Devorah Sacks, and Catherine Shaddix.

Testimonials

“I am a big fan of Laura’s classes! She teaches a powerful flow class with a soft touch. She gives great verbal adjustments and has a nice voice. I see Laura when I want a good workout without being too fatigued after class. I highly recommend her classes to anyone that is a beginner or advanced yogi. She will leave you feeling lighter and more energized than when you walked inside the studio!”

“I have been practicing yoga since 2003 and settled on Ashtanga Yoga in 2005. I have been training with Laura since 2006 and really enjoy her teaching style. Laura is able to teach a traditional Ashtanga focused class or a Vinyasa Flow class based on the requests and needs of the students in her classes. I appreciate the fact that she listens to the students and can explain how the poses work.… Laura teaches with a sense of humor and is always professional. Laura is a very well-rounded yoga instructor which shows in how some of her students have very strong individual yoga practices.”
